An outline of the course will be available for you to study during your discussions with us. The following is a brief description of the program. The approach to the course is practical at all stages and concentrates on the essential skills of the photographic craft.

From the introduction and history of image formation, the course proceeds in carefully designed stages in both Colour and Black & White, to the final production of photographs tailored to client requirements. Commencing with SLR cameras in the early part of the course there is a natural progression towards working with medium-format, digital and large-format cameras. Students are trained in the use of a wide range of equipment, as an aid to their professional development. Supervised practical sessions are conducted in both the Studio and on location. Lectures, class demonstrations and field trips in photography are an important aspect of the course.

Technical theory closely related to the every day needs of the practicing photographer is an important aspect of the course. Digital capture and the use of Adobe Camera RAW truly offers many photographers the option of a one-stop workflow solution. The aim of the PHOTOSHOP component in the Full Time Course is to teach students the capabilities of this program and how it can assist in the general day-to-day workings of a professional photographer. Individual projects are set so that students will learn about the range of techniques offered by PHOTOSHOP and how to be “time effective” whilst using the program. The college uses the most up to date version of PHOTOSHOP in helping students to achieve a creative outcome with their images.

Students are required to maintain a substantial file of written notes which, when completed, form a comprehensive reference text of long-term value. The business and marketing side of photography is dealt with in some detail and includes matters such as insurance, self-promotion, copyright, legal matters and fee structures.

Students are introduced to the work of eminent photographers throughout the year. This is aimed at broadening awareness and appreciation of the individual’s potential. A high level of care is promoted in the College at both the personal and practical level while occupational health and safety issues are emphasized at all times.
