Photography is one of the most exciting art forms of the century. It offers anyone who wishes to explore its limitless possibilities the opportunity to develop their individual potential in the Art of Photography.

The Brisbane College of Photography and Art believes all students have the potential to become competent photographers. Given enthusiasm, a desire to learn and determination we believe we can train any student to a high level of proficiency. Our environment encourages students to work to the best of their abilities and we are committed to developing informed, and highly skilled photographers.

Since its establishment in 1993, the Brisbane College of Photography and Art has been a leading contributor to photographic education in Queensland. As the college specializes in teaching still photography, students acquire their skills through courses that have a strong and relevant practical component.

The courses incorporate both digital and traditional skills, allowing students to explore their creativity in a wide range of photographic areas. The teaching staff have extensive industry experience along with the personal qualities that are necessary to be effective tutors.

The college’s professional career training course can be undertaken full-time over one year, or part-time over two years, commencing in March each year. This Program has been designed for photographers by photographers. The Professional Photography course gives students the vital information required for starting a career in professional photography. The academic year is comprised of four terms, and covers both the technical and creative skills required to become a professional photographer. Students may not choose individual subjects "àl a carte", as the curriculum is designed as a coherent whole.

Full Time students attending the college have access to modern Digital imaging facilities, fully maintained darkrooms (Colour and Black & White), as well as two professionally equipped studios. Full Time students also have use of many different camera formats to help build their photographic skills. A comprehensive PHOTOSHOP program, especially designed for photographers, is a major part of the Full-Time course. Please note, that in order to maintain a very personalised and effective approach to the study of Photography, the college only offers a small number of places each year, in each of the two courses.

The course covers all aspects of modern photography: photojournalism, studio photography, design elements, fashion photography, landscape, architectural, sports, computer imaging, traditional and alternative processes, as well as the history of photography. Students are required to complete assignments to a standard set by the college throughout the course in order to gain the required professional skills. Graduating students must also participate in the end-of-the-year exhibition which is an important culmination to their studies, as is the completion of a portfolio of professional images.

The course content may be varied from time to time at the discretion of the college.
