Darkroom Black & White Level Two

This course focuses on the practical skills required when exploring the fine art of Black and White Photography. The emphasis at this level is on refining print enlarging techniques. Students will also be instructed on the use of flash when using Black and White film. The course also includes a session in the Studio learning how to best Photograph a model using tungsten lighting.


Some of the many topics covered in this course are:

  • The “Zone System” in relation to accurate exposure
  • Flash Exposure when using Black and White Film
  • Studio Model Session using Tungsten Lighting
  • Filters for contrast control

Practical darkroom sessions giving students “hands on” experience in the following areas:

  • Analysing Contact Sheets
  • Evaluating the Negative
  • Altered Film Processing Techniques
  • Understanding Printing Paper Grades
  • Split Filtration Printing* Dodging and Burning when Printing
  • Experimental Darkroom Techniques (for example, Solarisation, Painting with developers and creating a vignette)

The program runs for eight consecutive weeks, with each class being two hours long. Course Fee is $360.00.
