This course focuses on the practical skills required when exploring the fine art of Black and White Photography. The emphasis in this level is on refining your print enlarging techniques.

Students will also be instructed on Flash techniques when using Black and White film.The course also includes a session in the Studio learning how to best Photograph a model using tungsten lighting.

Some of the many topics covered in this newly updated course are as follows :

  • The “Zone System” in relation to accurate exposure
  • Flash Exposure when using Black and White Film
  • Studio Model Session using Tungsten Lighting

Practical darkroom sessions aimed at giving students “hands on” experience in the following areas :

  • Analysing Contact Sheets
  • Evaluating the Negative
  • Altered Film Processing Techniques
  • Understanding Printing Paper Grades
  • Split Filtration Printing
  • Dodging and Burning when Printing
  • Experimental Darkroom Techniques for example:
    • Solarisation
    • Painting on developer
    • Vignetting Images
    • Soft Focus Edges
    • Zooming During Enlarging
    • Combination Printing
