If you have a passion for Black and White Photography then this is the course for you. Black and White printing is where the science of photography, art and creativity meet.
In the darkroom you are in control of your final print. The results can be seen in minutes. Watching your latent image appear gradually from a blank sheet of paper in the developing tray is nothing short of magic. Even in today's fast moving, ever changing Digital World there is a resurgence of interest in traditional Black and White darkroom skills and techniques. This course provides a foundation for; and experience in, producing the perfect exposure and tonal range capture, along with the associated mystique.
This course focuses on the practical skills required when exploring the fine art of Black and White Photography. This course is designed for the student who already has an adequate knowledge of their 35mm film camera .
Some of the many topics covered in this course are as follows :
- “Visualising in Black and White”
- Studying image tonal range
- Improving composition with Black and White images
- Film types, their proper usage, and tests to determine the correct film speeds for Black and White films
- Metering subjects with the aid of “Grey Cards”
- Negative Processing Faults
- Setting up a home darkroom
Practical darkroom sessions aimed at giving students “hands on” experience in the following areas :
